About the City

The city of Richmond has established and maintained public improvements that support a full service community. Passage of local sales tax elections, a downtown with a historic "niche" appeal, strategic location on a newly improving regional highway system, new highway interchanges and the maintenance of urban infrastructure-all have helped build Richmond as a county-seat of Ray County. The city has the opportunity to build on those strengths as it plans for growth, inside the city with "infill" development, and outside to the southeast, south and southwest from the city. Strengthening downtown while accommodating commercial development within established business districts is a major challenge for Richmond. Stabilization of residential districts is important while serving new subdivisions in growth areas, along Highways 10 and 13.

About this Site

You can do alot of interesting things at our site. I'd like to go over some of the not-so-obvious things you can do. You can subscribe to the RSS feed. You can add any of the city calendars (or all of them) to your personal calendar by clicking on the google calendar link at the bottom of every calendar (you'll need a free google calendar account to do this). This is especially cool, because when we change the calender, update an event, move an event, delete an event, it automatically changes on your calendar. You can submit problems and concerns using the "problem" form. You can use the document repository to get city forms. You can also comment on the items in the "Local News" section by using the "comment" button below every news item. I'd say it's a pretty good website for a volunteer!
