The Richmond School District serves approximately 1,900 students, housed in four separate facilities. The district continues to receive accreditation by the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education and North Central Association of Schools and Colleges. These accreditations ensure the district has the resources in place to provide a quality educational program for the youth of the community. The district offers a variety of special programs and services to meet the needs of our students.

Youth Friends

The district is one of fifteen Youth Friends districts in the metropolitan Kansas City area. Youth Friends is a volunteer program that is designed to connect caring adults with youth in schools. Volunteer choice and flexibility are focuses of Youth Friends. The Youth Friends volunteers are thoroughly screened and trained. School To Career

The school to career program is a K-12 program that infuses career activities into the curriculum. Students are provided opportunities to explore careers they may be interested in through guest speakers, assemblies, job shadowing and internships. A+

The A+ program is a high school program. The three goals of the A+ program are: 1) All students graduate from school; 2) All students complete a selection of studies that are challenging and have identified learning expectations; and 3) All students proceed from high school to post secondary school or a high income wage job. Students who meet the A+ criteria qualify for two years of tuition fees and books at any public Missouri community college, vocational or technical school.

Adventure Club

The Adventure Club provides School Age Child Care before and after school. The Adventure Club serves students in grades K-6 between the hours of 6:00-8:00am and 3:00-6:00pm Monday through Friday. Fun, structured, educational activities are provided to students at affordable prices to parents. The Adventure Club meets throughout the summer and all day on days school is not in session.

Richmond High School is a comprehensive high school housing students in grades 9-12. Students have the opportunity to choose from over 150 courses including honors and college credit classes. A wide range of vocational classes is available at Lex-La-Ray Vocational Center as well as on campus. Students may participate in a variety of extra and co-curricular activities. These activities are designed to provide students with the opportunity to reach their highest level of personal and intellectual well-being. These activities include: athletics, fine arts, academic contests, and clubs.

Richmond Middle School is a modern air conditioned facility housing grades 6-8. The middle school was recently designated as a Missouri Gold Star School. It is set up on a ten block system with students taking five seventy-five minute classes per day with five more classes the following day. The additional classes allow students the chance to enroll in enhancement classes designed to foster critical thinking skills. The middle school has an active after school intramural program offered free to students grades 5-8, Monday through Thursday. Activities range from academics to sports including swimming, golf, wrestling, theater, computer, and science Olympiad. Competitive athletics are available for students in the 8th grade.

Richmond Intermediate School houses students in grades 3-5. The intermediate school takes pride in the many activities and programs tailored to meet the needs of their students, families and the community. Students may have the opportunity to participate in intramural activities, read-ins, field trips, DARE, and student council. The intermediate school houses the district parent resource center. This is a library of printed materials and videos related to family concerns which is available to all district patrons. The intermediate school offers monthly family night activities. These nights are designed to educate parents about family issues and bring families together for fun, educational activities.

Woodson-Dear serves students in K-2. It also houses the Early Childhood Special Education program for children three to four years with developmental delays. As a member of Missouri's Accelerated School program, students receive developmentally appropriate learning activities in an active hands-on environment. Woodson-Dear fosters a sense of community involving staff, parents, students and the Parent-Teacher Association in developing the vision for the school. The Parents as Teacher (PAT) program is also located at Woodson-Dear. The PAT program provides the necessary materials and instructions to help parents serve as the child's first teacher. The PAT program conducts screenings on children from birth through age five and provides home visits to share information about the developmental level of children.
